I am thankful for my digital camera. When my boys were little, I didn’t take as many pictures as I would have liked, because film and developing cost a lot of money! Now, I take tons of pictures (our one week vacation to California in 2010 resulted in 1,354 pictures!). I even let my kids take the camera and have fun taking pictures, and they have taken some really cool ones. Not to mention that I have the inside of my house documented well!

When I download the pictures off my camera, I immediately back them up to a CD. I learned my lesson in 2004 when I lost 4 months of pictures because I hadn't backed them up before my hard drive crashed. Over the years, I have accumulated quite a stack of CD's.
I will not keep them exclusively on a hard drive because hard drives crash. Even the expensive ones. But they were starting to take up a lot of room and I needed a different option. Then I remembered that DVD's hold more than CD's do. So I took all my pictures and saved them onto DVD's instead. I went from 48 CD's to 4 DVD's.
Very cool!
So I promised I would show you what I used my picture hanging strips for. But first you need some back story.
I love pictures of my kids. I love looking at them and remembering what was going on in the picture. But scrapbooks aren't enough. I wanted pictures around my house.
The problem with that frames are expensive, and to get frames that match every time you buy them is nearly impossible. So I have been stuck with random frames in various shades.
Until now.
Last year for Christmas, my parents gave us a really cute wall hanging, and I wanted to hang pictures on my wall, but I wanted the frames to match the wall hanging. So I painted them black, and then sanded the edges to make them look old. Here is how it turned out.
No, my kids are not albinos. I have covered the faces in order to protect the innocent! Now this is still a work in progress. I want to put more there, but I was so happy with how it turned out!
After I took new pictures of my kids this last fall, I moved them to a different wall and wanted them to be more unified. So I did the same thing...I painted them black and sanded the edges. Here is the result.
However, this was such a pain to get them all exactly evenly spaced apart and the same height and such. And I am too OCD to let it be "wrong."
So now I had a whole empty wall in which to put up more "random" pictures of my kids, instead of the posed yearly pictures. The Doctor went to the local thrift store (Deseret Industries) and bought me a whole bunch of frames for $1 each. I painted them all black and got them ready to go. They looked so cute!
But again, to try and hang a bunch of pictures and have them all level and where I wanted them was frustrating to even think about, let alone accomplish!
Then I saw the commercial for the picture hanging strips. I nearly cried because I was so happy! I found them at Joann's, and quickly put them to good use. Below is the wall. I used them on every frame there.
This whole wall only took me 1/2 hour to put up. I put my level on the frame as I stuck it on the wall and then just pressed it on. I am in heaven, and I can't wait to get more frames to fill up the wall!

You stick them on the back of your frames, and then stick the frames on the wall where you want them. And they stay there. They hold with a kind of velcro stuff.
If you need to level it, you just pull it apart from the wall and adjust and stick it back. And when you want to take it down, you just take it off the wall and pull the adhesive part off the wall and you have no nail holes and no torn paint. It is awesome!
They have different sizes for different weights of frames. The big ones will hold up to 10 pounds. Cool!

I have been thinking a lot about this, and I have finally made a decision. I am taking all the pictures off my blog. I will be going back and editing 283 posts and taking all the pictures out. I worry that my pics will get hijacked and used for other purposes. So if you want to see a particular picture, just email me and we'll talk. Otherwise, sorry!
I downloaded my camera a couple weeks ago. I love seeing pictures that I took, but I had forgotten about. Following is just a smattering of them.
This picture is of The Princess spelling her name with twist ties. I don't use twist ties to tie up my garbage bags, so I always have a ton to play with. She totally did this on her own. I was so impressed! (Pretend that you can't read what her real name is!)
This is the Princess dressed up as Darth Vadar. She loves dressing up in the Halloween costumes. And changing them. Several times an hour. But isn't she cute?
Here is The Princess on her brand new bed. No more toddler bed. No more crib mattress. Now she has a really big girls bed. I wanted something that would be classy and could go from small girl to teenager. And I got a really good price on it, which helped me justify how much I spent on the comforter!

Tuesday I took another 75 pictures at soccer games. Many were of The Princess sitting on the grass...in the middle of the field...watching the ball go by. She was supposed to be kicking it. She did other things. Like play in the goal until her hair got caught in the net...twice. She also swung on the goal posts. And played in the dirt. In fact, when we got there, the first thing she asked was if she could go play in the dirt. No, we are here for soccer. Awwww. These are some of the rescued pics from the cell phones.
My mom called me last night and said that I haven't posted in a while. I got on and realized it had been since last Thursday! Whoops!
So I was going to post something witty and amazing last night, but then got caught up trying to get the pictures off my cell phone onto my computer. And oh, the drama! I got them off the phone onto the T-Mobile website, then deleted them from the phone, then emailed them to myself. Then deleted them from T-Mobile.
Never, never, never delete pictures until you are absolutely sure you have them saved somewhere else!
When I opened my email, the pictures wouldn't show. Just little boxes with red x's in them. I was sick. I shut down the computer and bawled. My poor hubby...trying to study for the Praxis test (which he is taking on Saturday!) and dealing with an emotionally drained wife.
This morning I turned the computer on and opened the email and guess what!
Still little boxes with red x's.
I spent 15 minutes on the phone with T-Mobile trying to see if there was anything I could do. Nope. Nada. Noodle. Sorry, a vague Veggie Tales reference there.
I then thought I would try to email it to my gmail email and see if they would show up there. So I hit forward, and noticed that the email had attachments. Hmmm. I sent them, then opened up my gmail account. Guess what!

But I noticed that the email had the attachments. So I clicked download on one, saved it to my computer, then went onto the computer and opened it and guess what!
IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!
71 pictures that I successfully saved. You can't even imagine the relief that washed through me. Last night when I went to bed, I kept saying, "They're just pictures, they're just pictures." But they're not. They are memories.
Small blessings people. Small blessings.

For my screensaver on my computer, I have it scroll through all my pictures randomly. I have all my digital pictures on my computer. ALL of them. I have 92 folders, and each folder has probably 300-400 pictures at least. I love watching the screen saver scroll through them all. I love pictures of my kids.
However, I didn't get my first digital camera until December of 2001. By then The Teenager was 8, so I had taken a lot of pictures. I have the negatives in a box...in the garage...somewhere. But those aren't fun to look at. And they don't scroll by on my computer. And it appears that my boys weren't ever babies! LOL
So I have started scanning in all my pictures. I don't even want to know how many I have to do. I can scan 3-4 at a time, but it still takes time. Pull them out of the scrapbook, put them on the scanner, pre-scan, make sure all the borders are correct, scan, take them off the scanner, put them back in the scrapbook, and start over again with a new group. Then I am going to have to go in and rename them so they are in the right order because I am just that OCD.
But I don't care how long it takes. I am going to keep plugging away. Because I want to have them all digitalized. I have one binder done, which is The Doctor's and mine from 1991-1995. As I was scanning, I came across this picture of the cutest little girl.
Yes, that just happens to be me. Aren't I cute? On the left is my Aunt Judy, holding me is my grandma (Mom's mom) and on the right is my other grandma (Dad's mom). I love that I have a picture with me and my grandmas.

My friend Tia is taking photography classes and needed volunteers to get their pictures taken. Um, free family pictures? I'm in! We went yesterday afternoon to Wheeler Farm and spent about 45 minutes posing. At 8:30 Tia called and had the pictures ready for us! I was amazed at how awesome they are!

Okay, today we will finish the tour.
Again, I apologize that there is mess all over. I am in the middle of that project, remember? You can see my ancient hand-me-down laptop that works just fine because I only use it for printing my pictures. Yes, I print my own. I have a program where I can make them nearly any size I want, from 1" x 1" to full page. And if I goof up, I can reprint the picture. And someday, when they fade, I can print them again. The cubbies help me keep things organized. I also use containers in the cubbies to help. Behind the white binder, can you see those clear plastic holders? Those are all my eyelets and brads. They are inside the holders in little cases that look like TicTac containers. They work perfectly! You can buy them at Walm-Mart. My dad made the cute clock.
This is the other half of my desk. I keep the desktop calendar there to use for scratch paper, and to do stamping and such. When it gets too grungy, I just rip off the top sheet and I have a clean one underneath! More cubbies to hold more embellishments.
This is under my desk. Top drawer is pens and pencils. Second drawer is glue and tape. Third drawer is scissors and cutters. Fourth drawer are Sharpies. I have a slight addiction! Fifth drawer is my small Cropodile and punches. Bottom drawer is colored pencils and glitter glue. I also have a bunch of stuff under the desk.
Okay, the drawers in the front have all my paper scraps. I keep everything that might be big enough to use. They are organized by color. Behind those drawers are more drawers! LOL These hold more embellishments. The drawers on the bottom hold more practical things like batteries and flashlights. The top 3 drawers to the left hold more embellishments. The bottom 3 drawers hold my cards (I am in a monthly card exchange group with my Mom). They are organized in gallon Ziplock bags according to category (Christmas/Winter, Love, Thank You, etc.).
These are bookcases that I got at a garage sale for a steal! They hold lots of things. I will name off what I can see. Oh, I know...let's play I spy! I spy...sticker letters, stamp pads, stamps, glues, stamps, page protectors and binders, stamps, binders, paper and notebooks, paper, craft sticks (more commonly known as popsicle sticks and tongue depressors), binders, ribbon, tea lights, scotch tape refills, Wish Bear, ribbon, and more organizers. LOL A star on the forehead of the first person who can find it all! :)
On top of the bookcases, is my 12 x 12 paper. I love paper. I have a hard time resisting. But there is a lot of paper out there that makes me think, "Really?" The boxes on top are from a monthly scrapbook kit club that I used to belong to. I was in it for 7 months. And how many did I get done? Well, you count. On the left are more organizing bins. Starting at the top and going clockwise, you can see my sewing stuff, paints, hot glue guns and glue, school supplies, and a bin holding fabric for aprons that are needing to be sewed.
On the back of the door, is my ribbon. I love how I organized this. That is jute they are hanging from. It is so easy to see what I need. And easy to get to ones in the middle too. They just slide right off.
Finally, this is the closet. In here is vinyl, gift wrapping ribbon, house decorations, boxes, my scrapbooking totes, old backpacks, baby blankets for gifts, a playpen, my game box, and lots and lots of gift bags.
This is how I organize my ribbon in the closet. They are just loosely tied around a hanger. Easy to see, easy to get off. And yes, those are shirts that need to be ironed. I hate to iron. I have broken my pinky toe ironing. These get ironed about once a year. The Doctor thinks it's such a treat when they show up in his closet! LOL
You have to realize that all the stuff was not bought all at once. I shop the sales only. I don't think I bought anything in there at full price. I can't. I don't have that kind of money! And remember, I have been married for 16 years. It wasn't until 3 years ago that I got this room. I started with just one corner of our family room and taught the kids not to touch.
So that is my scrapbook room.

I don't have to clean up the project when I need to go do something else. I can leave it and come back to it later.

Okay, now for the tour. We will start by the door and head left.
This wonderful chest of drawers holds...movies and CD's. Nothing to do with crafting, but it's the only place for it. I hate it there, because I could really use that space! The cubby's on top hold embellishments. All the CD cases you see are my pictures on CD. When I dump the pictures off my camera, I IMMEDIATELY back them up onto not one, but two CD's. So I have 3 copies of them at all times. When we moved here, my hard drive died and I lost 4 months of pictures, including the last day of school at the old school. I learned my lesson! Sitting on the floor are papers to be filed, and a gift for a special girl in our ward who is going through a really hard time right now.
These are file drawers. I have my 8.5 x 11 cardstock filed by color, all my stickers and patterned 8.5 x 11 paper filed by category (baby, animals, family, Halloween, etc.). I do scrapbook in 8.5 x 11 because it is cheaper. I buy just the simple white 3 ring binders from Office Max and then using paper, I embellish how I want. I also use the clear page protectors from Office Max. Much cheaper! Each person in the family also has a file. There I put their awards, school papers, scout patches, etc. Then when I scrapbook, I just go and grab their file and I can put the papers with the pictures.
My dad made these shelves. Aren't they cute? On the bottom shelf are all my journals. I have written in a journal, nearly daily, since I was 14. I love to go back and read them. The next shelf up has embellishments. The pink box has all my double sided tape refills. The middle shelf has my Cricut cartridges. Also The Doctor's and my diploma's. That is another project...to get them in cute frames. The other two shelves have embellishments and decorations.
Top shelf has my printer and extra ink and photo paper. Also some old dried up flowers that I really need to get rid of. I dried them and now I don't even remember when I got them. The middle shelf has my Cricut, my big Cropodile and my light table. The floor has my Sissix and my tools. Yes, MY tools. And the boys all got their own toolboxes and tools for Christmas so they better stay out of mine! You can also see the TV and DVD player to the left. I love to come in here and watch chick flicks while I scrapbook. I shut the door and no one cares that I am crying!

Sitting on the floor are papers to be filed, and a gift for a special girl in our ward who is going through a really hard time right now.
These are file drawers. I have my 8.5 x 11 cardstock filed by color, all my stickers and patterned 8.5 x 11 paper filed by category (baby, animals, family, Halloween, etc.). I do scrapbook in 8.5 x 11 because it is cheaper. I buy just the simple white 3 ring binders from Office Max and then using paper, I embellish how I want. I also use the clear page protectors from Office Max. Much cheaper! Each person in the family also has a file. There I put their awards, school papers, scout patches, etc. Then when I scrapbook, I just go and grab their file and I can put the papers with the pictures.
My dad made these shelves. Aren't they cute? On the bottom shelf are all my journals. I have written in a journal, nearly daily, since I was 14. I love to go back and read them. The next shelf up has embellishments. The pink box has all my double sided tape refills. The middle shelf has my Cricut cartridges. Also The Doctor's and my diploma's. That is another project...to get them in cute frames. The other two shelves have embellishments and decorations.
Top shelf has my printer and extra ink and photo paper. Also some old dried up flowers that I really need to get rid of. I dried them and now I don't even remember when I got them. The middle shelf has my Cricut, my big Cropodile and my light table. The floor has my Sissix and my tools. Yes, MY tools. And the boys all got their own toolboxes and tools for Christmas so they better stay out of mine! You can also see the TV and DVD player to the left. I love to come in here and watch chick flicks while I scrapbook. I shut the door and no one cares that I am crying!

So I was led to a website by a friend. It is called Yearbook Yourself. It is so much fun! You upload a photo of yourself and they put it in real yearbook photos from years past. Here are a few of my favorites. You should try it!
In order, 1950, 1952, 1954, 1962, 1966, 1974, 1978, 1986, 1990, and 1994. The scary part? 1954 looks exactly how my mom looked in high school. And 1990 is how I desperately wanted to look in high school!

So I want to post every day, but I don't always have time. So I thought on the days that I don't have time to do a "real" post, I would post a picture. Sometimes current, more often from the past. I can't go too far past...I only got a digital camera in December 2001. Someday I want to go in and scan all the pictures from my boy's scrapbooks prior to 2001 so I have a digital copy of them. But that is not anywhere near the top of my list!
Anyway, so here is are 3 classics from December 2001, taken with my brand new 1.0 megapixel camera. Crappy, crappy pictures. I hated it. Tom bought it for me for my birthday, and I put up with it until July 2002 when I bought a 4.0 megapixel.
