On New Year’s Eve, I want you to kiss me.  Kiss me at 11:59 and do not finish that kiss until 12:01.  Therefore I have a perfect ending and definitely a perfect beginning.

The Secret Heart

I wonder, if you know how much I need your love.

How much I crave a compliment, how much I want a hug.

I wonder if you share my fear of always falling short

Of thinking I’m the only one with faults and sins and warts.

Do you, like me, put on a face that says your life is swell,

But shake and tremble deep inside that fragile outer shell?

Please don’t be fooled by my facade, I’ve worn it now for years

But often, just below my smile, my throat is full of tears.

Are you convinced that others here are worthier than you?

They know the gospel, pay their tithes, and shine in Sunday School

Their kids don’t fight, their house is clean, they never raise their voice.

You’d gladly trade your life for theirs, if you just had a choice.

Well, please remember, sisters dear, that life’s not all it seems.

The lives that other women live are only in your dreams

They worry, struggle, cry and pray, and never have enough

Of love from women like yourself, of gentle female stuff.

I need your love like you need mine;  I need forgiveness too

For falling short of my ideals, and wishing I was you

So if you like me, tell me so, just tell me to my face

I need to hear that, oh so much: I need your warm embrace.

Do you like my dress, my smile, the lesson I just gave?

Well, tell me every Sunday, please; I’d love it if you rave.

You see, I’m not as smart or strong or good as you may think;

Life gets me down; you’d be surprised how low my moods can sink.

Well, who am I? I’m everyone—I’m every woman here

Who needs a friend, a confidante, a non-judgmental ear,

Who wants to feel important and to know somebody cares,

Who needs to feel she’s up to all the burdens that she bears.

So please don’t be afraid of me; draw near to me instead,

Pour out your heart and soul to me and get inside my head.

Let’s be a whole fraternity of inter linking hearts.

That’s how the Savior planned it, if we each just do our part.

Rexburg Idaho

My Apartment

Princeton Court.  This is the manager’s house, where I lived.  My best friend’s parents owned the apartments, so I got to live with them for cheap!  The top window on the left was my bedroom window.

 Tom's Apartment

Princeton Court.  This was The Doctor’s apartment, way back before he even dreamed of getting his Ph.D.  The window on the top left was his apartment.  The balcony in the middle is where we spent many an evening kissing!  See the building on the far right that is mostly cut off?  That is where I lived!

The Mailbox

See the mailboxes?  That is where it all began.  We would “meet” here when we got our mail and talk for hours.  I thought I was being crafty by watching for him to go get his mail, and he thought the same.  That is where our friendship grew.

I have such fond memories of these 3 places, and I hadn’t realized that I didn’t have any pictures until The Doctor sent me these on a recent trip to Rexburg.  I totally cried when I opened my email and saw them!

How do you define true love?

1.  In February, I got prepped for 2 crowns (on a side note, don’t ever do two at a time.  Just don’t.)  A week later, I went back to get the permanent crowns put on.  My teeth were so sensitive, they had to numb me just to get them cemented on.

By the time I got home, I was in such pain.  I was miserable.  I was trying to think of what to make for supper and what I was going to do for the Stake Conference Children’s choir practice that night.

The doctor got home at 5:30 and immediately sent me upstairs to bed to lay down.  He fixed supper and got the kids taken care of.  When he woke me up, supper was on the table.  I was able to eat and then go to the choir practice rested.

2.  The Doctor teaches high school for his full time job.  That means he is home during the summer.  Last summer, he self-appointed himself to make supper every night.  The kids loved it because I then helped them with the dishes each night.  But I loved it more because I could relax in the afternoons!

3.  The Doctor also teaches at a local university on weekends.  This means that on some Saturdays, he has to get up early.  If the Princess wakes up before he leaves, he convinces her to stay downstairs and eat breakfast and let me sleep until he leaves.

4.  When I get a new book, especially one that I have been anticipating, I start reading and I can’t put it down.  When the last Harry Potter book came out, I went to Wal-Mart and bought it at noon.  I went home and started reading.

And I didn’t stop.  For 12 hours.

Yes, I read the whole book in 12 hours.  But the most important thing is that I didn’t do anything else.  I didn’t cook, pay attention to the kids, anything.

And my sweet hubby let me.  He took care of everything.  I didn’t ask him to.  He just stepped up and did it.  Because he loves me.

5.  He tells me everyday that he loves me.  He tells me how beautiful and sexy I am.

So to me, these define true love.

I am loving my church calling again.
I have been in Primary for over 3 years now.  I was the pianist for about 14 months, and then I have been the chorister for the last 2 years.
Last year, I was really struggling by the time the program was over.  I just was really annoyed with the children and they were bugging me a lot.  Even some of the teachers were starting to bug me.
I had talked to our Primary President about midway through the year and told her that I was getting burned out.  I wanted to finish out the year, but after that I was done.
Well, I never heard anything in December about being released.  I finally talked to the Primary President and she told me the Bishop had no intention of releasing me.
I’ll be honest with you.  I went home and cried.  I didn’t want to be in there anymore.  I was a little bitter for a couple of weeks.  And then I decided that I needed an attitude change.  I wasn’t getting released, so I could either have a bad attitude and be miserable, or I could change my attitude.
I chose to change my attitude, and I am so glad that I did.  I am having so much fun again!  The children are responding really well and have learned the song so good.  And have I mentioned how much I love the song we have been learning this month?  :-)
I was watching a documentary the other day and the parents were seperating. They had a lot of struggles with their daughter's health, and mom said she realized that she just wasn't in love with her husband anymore.

Now, I obviously don't know the whole story, but it hit me hard. There have been several times in my marriage when I have felt the same way. And it is usually when we are going through trials.

When The Doctor was out of work and then working but incredibly unhappy, he was really depressed. He was moody and snappy and not very much fun to be around. There were times that I really wondered if I wanted to spend the rest of my life with this man. I knew that deep down I really did love him, but I didn't like him very much.

I can hear everyone gasping and choking. But I'm sorry. It's true.

However...

Because we were sealed in the temple, I knew I had more to work towards. So I muddled through. And yes, at times, it felt like I was wading through a pool of muck and mud. But I did it because I knew that things had to get better.

And you know what? They did. It didn't happen overnight. But things eventually got better. We are still together and we are still in love.

I think that a lot of people want the same love that they felt when they were first married. You know, that gagging, sugar sweet lovey dovey stuff. Well, that doesn't last. Ever. You grow and mature and the love I feel for The Doctor today is deeper and more intense than I felt 17 years ago.

And that's a good thing.
I was 19 when I got married. For some people, that is too young. But I was ready. I was so in love with The Doctor and he was in love with me.
The day of our wedding, I prayed to Heavenly Father that he would confirm to me that I was doing the right thing.
As we kneeled across the alter in the temple, I felt the most overwhelming confirmation that I was marrying the right person at the right time, in the right place.
There have been times throughout my marriage that I have wondered what in the world I had done, but I am always able to go back to that moment and know that I am where I am supposed to be.
I love you babe!
The Idaho Falls Temple. Today is our 17th anniversary. We were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on June 19, 1992. I love this temple so much. Here are a few of the pictures I took on a recent trip to Idaho.

Happy Anniversary honey! I love you!
Happy Anniversary, my love!
