I loved my ears double pierced.  I would wear a pair of small hoops in the top hole just about all the time. I know how weird it sounds, but I loved my second holes!

In October of 2000, President Gordon B. Hinckley, the Prophet and President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, more commonly known as the Mormon church, told the women of the church that we should only wear one pair of earrings.

I won’t lie.  I was devastated.  And then I tried to justify them by saying that I already had the holes, yadda, yadda, yadda.  And then I left them in.

And then, a week or so later, I was talking to my mother-in-law.  She was in the Young Women Presidency in her ward at the time.  She told me that they were at the church watching conference when President Hinckley made that comment.  She saw a movement out of the corner of her eye and looked down the row at her young women.  She saw each and every one of them immediately reach up and take the second pair of earrings out of their ears.

I was so ashamed when I heard that.  I quickly took mine out and vowed from that point on I would always obey the prophet…the first time he tells me.

This is the number of holes I have in my ears.  I got my ears pierced when I was 8.  When I was a teenager, I really wanted to get my ears double pierced, but my parents wouldn’t let me.  So when I went to college, one of the very first things I did was get one ear double pierced.  I loved it.  And a few months after I got married, I got the other done. I loved them!

My eyes are really sensitive to the light.  In the summer, when I go outside, I can barely open my eyes sometimes because it hurts too bad.  This has always bothered me, and I wondered if there was something wrong with me.

I even have to wear sunglasses on some cloudy days because the light still hurts.  So if you see me wearing sunglasses and it’s raining, don’t laugh!

However, I recently read that blue eyes are more sensitive to the light than brown eyes.  I guess that means that I am a more sensitive person!

When I was in high school, I dressed for style.

Now, I never wore name brand clothes…why pay $100 for a pair of jeans when you can get 5 pairs for that price?

But I dressed nice.  I had nice clothes and I took good care of them.  Some things got hand-washed, and I actually ironed.  I had places to go and I had the clothes to wear.

Then I got married and started having babies.  And gaining weight.  That’s when I started dressing for function.

When I went shopping, I looked for easy care…stain resistant, easy to wash, no ironing, etc.  I was on the floor the majority of the time taking care of my kids, and I was at home 99% of the time, so what did I need nice clothes for?

Now that my children are older, I’m not on the floor anymore.  but I am still fat.  It’s so hard to buy clothes that are attractive on you when you are overweight.  They make the clothes look so cute, until you get them on.

No wonder I hate my clothes!
When I found out I was having a girl, I knew that it was time to get rid of my boy clothes.  I didn’t have any problems getting rid of them.  I had bought most of them from garage sales, and the rest were the cheapest clothes I could afford to buy.  They had been through 3 boys and I was tired of them.  I gave them all to my sister without a backwards glance.

The Princess had beautiful clothes.  I bought a bunch when I was pregnant, and she was given so many as gifts.  Dresses and sleepers and tights and shoes (I never bought shoes for my boys when they were babies!  Not until they started walking!).  Lace and ribbons and bows and ruffles and pink, pink, pink!  It was so much fun to dress her.

I have said it before – you buy clothes for boys because you can’t let them walk around nekked.  You buy clothes for girls because they are so cute and make you say, “Awwwww.”

But as The Princess grew out of her clothes, I struggled with letting them go.  They had barely been used and were in such good condition.  I finally gave them to my sister the hopes that my sister would have a girl.  But she didn’t.  So she gave them all back to me because she didn’t know what I would want done with them.

So then I had to deal with those emotions all over again.

And then I had a brilliant idea.  I got out my digital camera and went to work taking pictures.  Of every single outfit.  I love that we have digital cameras now and can take all the pictures we want without spending the money to develop every single picture.

After I took the pictures, I was able to let go of the clothes without a problem.  I had already pulled a few of the clothes out that I wanted to keep.  Those are boxed up, waiting for my daughter to mock them when she grows up and I pull them out for her little girl.  (Sorry, Mom.)
7 minutes.  That is how long it take me shower (just the basics, no shaving).
When I have a lot of work to do, I will go right down and get on the computer and start working as soon as possible, which is usually around 7:00.  I then work all morning.  Around 10:30, I will stop and put on my makeup and I throw my hair into a ponytail.  And then I feel gross the rest of the day, because I still have work to do, and I don't feel there is time to shower.
If I would take those 7 minutes before I sit down to work,I can then let my hair air dry, and then it only takes about 5 minutes to do my hair.
I feel so much better when I have showered.  So why do I seem to forget that?
We are all going to get old.  We are all going to get wrinkles.  People who have had plastic surgery and Botox are not natural looking.  They just aren't!  For instance:

Who do they think they are kidding?  Not me!  They look awful.  They just do.  I'm sorry.  Just grow old gracefully!
The Princess is a true diva.  She loves to dress up and have her hair done and be pretty.  And I have to admit, I tend to encourage it!  I love feeling pretty.
Last year, The Teenager had a concert, and The Princess was dressed up in her Cinderella dress.  She wanted to wear it to the concert, and now that I have 3 kids under my belt, I am more relaxed with the 4th.  Sure she can wear it, why not?
She didn't just wear the dress.  She also had the tiara, the gloves, and the purse.  I drew the line at the high heels, though!  She looked so adorable and got many comments throughout the night.
As I watched her walking in front of me, a little piece of me regretted not letting my boys do the same when they were little.  Not dressing up as Cinderella, but letting them wear the Halloween costumes and going out in them.  She was so happy and they would have been too.  I was too worried that they would get dirty or torn and then I couldn't pass them down to another child.
So learn from me...things like that aren't going to affect their eternal salvation.  Learn to relax and let them have fun.  I wish I had learned that earlier.
I found about a new fashion magazine. I know, you're thinking I am the LAST person on the earth to read a fashion magazine. And you would be right. But I know that my daughter might read them, and when I found out about Eliza, I was excited.

Eliza was started by an LDS runway model who wanted to create a fashion magazine that would appeal to the everyday modest woman. I have subscribed and I am looking forward to reading a magazine that isn't filled with smut!

From the Eliza website:

ELIZA Magazine is created for women who want to be stylish, sexy, and engaged in the world while retaining high standards in dress, entertainment, and lifestyle. In a media culture that frequently objectifies and commercializes women and their bodies, ELIZA strives to provide an alternative to the current mainstream media that emphasizes sex and skin in order to push products or sell magazines.

ELIZA magazine brings you "Fashion without Fiction." We are realistic about everyday women's price points, showcasing pieces that are worth the big price tags and discovering deals at your local department stores that are just as hip. We are realistic about women's bodies: we don't retouch bodies, and we mix real women and professional models. We are realistic about women's interests, featuring fashion and beauty information, current issues, and real life problem solving, all while keeping perspective on what's really important in life.

Each issue provides exciting and informative features in Fashion, Beauty, Health, Entertainment and Lifestyle. Last night, I was trying to get The Princess to hurry up and get ready for bed. I told her that she was going to her cousin's house tomorrow.

She looked at me, her eyes got wide, she put her hand to her mouth, and said, "Oh! What am I going to wear?"

LOL I am in trouble!
I love to say tutu. I love all sing-song words. But I digress.

Miss Priss Tutus has created a new tutu out of organza and it is gorgeous! The princess would look so cute in it!

Go to her website here to see it and to enter her contest to win it.

Oh wait. Don't go. Then I will have a better chance at winning!
