The Chocoholic was 3 when I discovered his true love.

He turned to me one day and said, “Mommy, I need some chocolate.”

Finally, a child after my own heart!

Thanks to The Teenager for killing my January.

Last December he came home and said his Seminary teacher was challenging them to a 40 day sugar fast, starting in January. I thought this would be an awesome thing to do as a family. So we did. And we are.

And I want to die.

I had no idea how hard it would be. We are on day 29. I feel like it's year 29. We still have sugar on our oatmeal and stuff like that, but no ice cream (even on Fast Sunday at Grandma's house), no cookies (that my sisters made for our dessert of the month gift from Christmas) (which we let the 3 younger kids eat because they don't have to do it and they have been so good), and no brownies (even when they have been blessed at Pack Meeting).

More importantly, no chocolate when it's that time of the month and I want to rip someone's head off. Two weeks ago, I was having a really hard day, and I would have sold one of my children in exchange for the right to eat some chocolate.

When we started this, we gathered all the sugar up and bagged it and I put it under my bed. Yes, there is sugar and chocolate in the house. But I haven't touched it. I even have some in my purse. Every now and then I look at it and sigh. But I have been so good. I am really proud of myself.

Last night, The Chocoholic was in tears because he couldn't have the brownie at Pack Meeting. We have been having frozen yogurt, but it wasn't good enough for him. I just held him. I totally understood how he was feeling.

12 more days.

I can make it. I know I can. But I am getting really cranky!
When The Chocoholic was 2 years old, he came up to me one day and said, "Mom, I need some chocolate." Well, me being the good mother that I am, I took him to the store and bought us some chocolate. We enjoyed it together and I look back on that memory fondly.
Starting in 2005, my mom has helped feed his addiction. She gives all the other grandchildren money for their birthday's, but she gives him chocolate.

This was 2005, and this cute bucket was full of chocolate syrup, candy bars, and a giant Hershey's kiss.

Yum!
In 2006, she took clear tennis ball containers, took the wrappers off, and filled them with Whoppers, tootsie rolls, and other chocolate items. Sadly, I didn't get a picture.

2007 brought 10 Cadbury chocolate candy bars. He was in chocolate heaven!
She asked him this year if he wanted money or chocolate and he immediately responded...Chocolate! He is so excited to see what she does this time!

So yesterday after church, T & t went to collect fast offerings. I put k down for nap, and then I laid down as well.

The next thing I remember is waking up at 4:05.

Crap, I had a song practice that started at 4:00.

I jump up and brush my hair and go downstairs to see the most wonderful sight. My darling, sweet T in the middle of making both supper and the most delicious chocolate chip walnut cookies.

I was in heaven. Not only did I get a nap, and do not have to make supper, I get chocolate as well!

What a wonderful afternoon!
